Val Kilmer Is Absolutely Ready to Reprise Iceman in ‘Top Gun 2’
Tom Cruise was very excited to announce earlier this week that Top Gun 2 is officially happening, and it looks like at least one of the original movie’s stars is extremely ready to get back in the cockpit. Val Kilmer played Top Gun’s Iceman, and he wants us all to know that he is so ready to come back.
Kilmer posted one of his ubiquitous selfie on Twitter, showing off his enthusiasm for the sequel with his very own Iceman T-shirt. (They make Iceman T-shirts? I want one!)
It’s pretty awesome that he’s still got his plaque and everything. Kilmer played Tom “Iceman” Kazanski, a fellow student at the Top Gun school Tom Cruise’s Maverick is sent to. Iceman is initially Maverick’s rival, but, quelle surprise, the two become buddies and flying partners by the end of the movie — not without sharing a few choice scenes of angry homoerotic tension.
The end of Top Gun saw Maverick return to the flying school as an instructor, choosing to give up flying and teach the skills he learned to other students. The sequel is said to be about modern fighter planes and drone warfare, but we’re still not sure where Maverick and Iceman and the rest of the Top Gun school fit in yet. Either way, we’re officially back in the danger zone as Top Gun 2 might even start production within the year.
