'Unbroken' is director Angelina Jolie's tribute to Louis Zamperini, a former Olympic runner and veteran who endured the unfathomable experience of becoming imprisoned at a POW camp during WWII. His story is one for the ages, made ever more emotional due to the man's recent death at the age of 97, and the latest 'Unbroken' trailer previews his harrowing journey from rebel to champion to survivor.

Rising star Jack O'Connell ('300: Rise of an Empire' and the upcoming 'Section 6') acts as our lens through which to experience Zamperini's trials (and to perhaps cry a little bit, too). As the 'Unbroken' trailer maps out, the film takes us through the man's younger years, as he rumbles with the law and finds his passion for running. When he's later enlisted to fight in WWII, the plane he's on crashes into the ocean, and although he and a member of his crew survives, they're left floating on a raft for 47 days before the Japanese find and imprison them in a POW camp.

The film aside, the real-life Zamperini peacefully passed away earlier this month surrounded by his family. “It is a loss impossible to describe,” Angelina Jolie said in a statement. “We are all so grateful for how enriched our lives are for having known him. We will miss him terribly.”

Dohmnall Gleeson ('Star Wars: Episode 7') and Garrett Hedlund ('Tron' and the upcoming 'Pan') also give supporting performances in 'Unbroken,' which will be out in theaters this Christmas. Bring some tissues just in case.
