Texas Tech Swept by Grand Canyon University; Hosts Kansas State on Friday
Wednesday evening, the Grand Canyon University Antelopes completed a two-game sweep against #4 Texas Tech, beating the Red Raiders 8-7.
Wednesday's loss was the third in a row for Texas Tech Baseball as they also lost last Sunday's series finale at the Kansas Jayhawks.
The Red Raiders did have a chance to send Wednesday's game into extra innings. Down 8-2 to start the top of the 9th inning, Texas Tech scored five runs off of three hits and two GCU errors.
Two of the runs came off of a double from Ty Coleman with no one out.
Then, with two outs and nobody on base, Parker Kelly had an opportunity to tie the game. Kelly hit a deep fly ball to left field and it hit off the fence. Kelly attempted to stretch the hit into a double but he was thrown out at second base to end the game.
Texas Tech's current three-game losing streak is the first since April 2021.
After an off-day on Thursday, the Red Raiders return home to Lubbock for their next series.
Texas Tech will play against Kansas State Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. Friday's game is at 6:30 p.m., Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's game is at 1 p.m. All three games will be streamed online through BIG 12 NOW on ESPN+.
Then, next Tuesday, for the second straight season Texas Tech will play a single non-conference game against the Oklahoma Sooners at Hodgetown in Amarillo. Hodgetown is the home stadium for the Amarillo Sod Poodles (AA affiliate for San Diego Padres).
