Texas Tech second baseman Jace Jung is up for an award.

On Tuesday, Jung was named to the midseason watch list for the 2022 Golden Spikes Award. The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

After 30 games, Jung is leading Texas Tech this season with a .400 batting average and a .538 on-base percentage. He also owns a team-best 12 doubles, 30 walks and is one RBI shy of leading the team with 35. Last week, Jung batted for a .600 average in 20 at-bats. It started in the series against Stephen F. Austin where he went, he went 5-for-6 from the plate with three doubles and a HR becoming the first Red Raider with four multi-base hits in a single game since 2008.

Jung is a sophomore for Texas Tech. His older brother Josh, who is currently a third baseman in the Texas Rangers minor league system, also played collegiately at Texas Tech.

Texas Tech this weekend hosts Kansas State for a three-game series at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

5 Things That Should Excite You About Zach Kittley's Texas Tech Offense

Zach Kittley returns home to Lubbock and Texas Tech as the chosen one to bring back an electric offense to the Hub City that hasn't been seen since Kliff Kingsbury was roaming the sidelines. Can he do it? I believe he can, but I don't think the offense will resemble what he was putting out at Western Kentucky in year one at Texas Tech. Here are 5 things that excite me about Kittley's potential as the Red Raiders' offensive coordinator.
