Taylor County Commissioners Have Issued an Aerial Fireworks Ban

The Taylor County Commissioners Court issued a Burn Ban throughout the county on May 10, 2022, and it's still in effect today. However, the Taylor County Commissioners Court has added to it, a Fireworks Ban.

The Fireworks ban is very specific, as a matter of fact, the Commissioners said NO aerial fireworks will be allowed in Taylor County. The exact wording is "A person commits an offense if he or she intentionally or knowingly, sells, detonates, or ignites or in any way uses aerial fireworks in any portion of the unincorporated area of Taylor County."

Commissioner Statler said that  "a clear violation of the order will be considered as a 'Class-C Misdemeanor' which comes with a $500 fine upon the first offense. The order is not just an "Aerial Fireworks" ban but goes on to explain where, when, and how 'non-aerial' fireworks are used." See the order below.

Taylor County has a permanent order that does not allow any fireworks from being ignited on any county road. If you violate that order, it too carries a citation and fines. There is also a ban on the use of fireworks on private property if you are not the owner of said property or you do not have written consent to be on the property.

For example, if you are on your own land in the county you must be alert and aware of all fireworks usage on your property, including the monitoring of any minors igniting any other fireworks like sparklers, firecrackers, and more.

The latest update of the general burn ban was issued in May and is still in full effect. Furthermore, with the recent wildfires throughout West Texas, nearly all Fire Chiefs are in agreement that we must all be extra cautious when using fireworks in the great outdoors.

County Judge Downing Bolls and a couple of the County Commissioners were asked by several of the Volunteer Fire Chiefs to ask all West Texans to abstain from using any fireworks if at all possible, on ANY private county property.

So if you're thinking of going outside of Taylor County to obtain aerial fireworks be aware that many other counties in the Big Country are also issuing similar fireworks bans. Commissioner Statler told me that "the Sheriff's office will be out enforcing this latest order to help keep our county safe."
