Texas THC Crackdown Comes as High Shoppers Reveal Their Biggest Regrets

Texas is cracking down on certain THC products, including the delta-8 gummies, vapes, and other goodies that seemingly popped up in every smoke shop from Abilene to Austin.

While politicians, business owners, and consumers continue fighting over what should be legal, regulated, or completely banned, a new survey raises another important question: What the hell are people buying after they get high? Apparently, a lot of stuff they don’t want once the buzz wears off.

Shopping While High Is Creating Some Expensive Regrets

CardRates.com surveyed 1,000 Americans and found that 4 in 10 cannabis users have purchased something while high that they later regretted.

That’s understandable. Everything probably looks like a brilliant investment when you’re baked. Yes, I absolutely need a six-foot inflatable T-Rex, three pounds of gummy worms, and a countertop hot dog roller.

Here’s where it gets expensive: Half of those regretful shoppers spent more than $250 total on their questionable purchases during the past year. Another 28% blew more than $500.

Even worse, half admitted making at least four purchases they later regretted. That’s not one accidental late-night Amazon order. That’s practically a subscription service for bad decisions.

Gen Z Leads America in Cannabis Buyer’s Remorse

Gen Z reported the most regret at 63%, followed by millennials at 49%. Gen X came in at 25%, while only 16% of Boomers admitted regretting a high purchase. Either Boomers have incredible self-control, or they’re still waiting for that commemorative Elvis plate to arrive.

Texas THC Laws Are Changing, but Impulse Buying Isn’t

Texas now considers manufactured delta-8 THC a controlled substance, although qualifying hemp products may still contain limited amounts of delta-9 THC.

No matter where you stand on the Texas THC debate, one lesson feels pretty universal: If you’re going to get high, maybe close Amazon first. Your bank account, and the inflatable T-Rex, will understand.
