These days, reliable internet in Texas is just as important as electricity. Whether it's working from home, attending online classes, running a small business, or simply streaming a favorite TV show, millions of Texans depend on a strong connection every single day.

Across Texas, from cities like Abilene and San Angelo to rural communities across the Lone Star State, reliable internet has become essential for work, education, and everyday life.

But a new survey suggests many residents may not be getting the same level of service as businesses.

Texas Survey Reveals Big Internet Satisfaction Gap

According to research from HostingAdvice.com, there is a striking difference between how Texas business owners and everyday residents feel about their internet service.

The survey found 98% of Texas business owners say they are satisfied with their internet service, while only 47% of residential customers say the same.

That’s a 51-point satisfaction gap between commercial and residential users in the Lone Star State.

Those numbers suggest Texans may be experiencing two very different levels of internet service depending on the type of account they have.

Why Businesses Often Get Better Internet

Businesses typically subscribe to commercial-grade internet services that offer higher speeds, priority support, and faster response during outages.

Residential customers often share bandwidth across neighborhoods, which can lead to slower speeds during peak hours or more noticeable interruptions.

That difference in service tiers may explain why satisfaction among business users is significantly higher.

My Experience Switching to Commercial Internet

For years, I paid for regular home internet service bundled with cable television. Like many Texans, I occasionally dealt with slow speeds or freezing connections.

Eventually, I upgraded to what was marketed as a faster residential plan, but the problems continued.

During a conversation with a manager at my provider, I was told that commercial accounts often receive higher priority service. Since I write articles, produce radio commercials, and occasionally broadcast live from my home studio, I decided to switch to a commercial internet account.

It costs more, but the service has generally been much more reliable for the kind of work I do.

Why Reliable Internet Matters for Texans

With more Texans working from home, running online businesses, attending virtual classes, and relying on telehealth services, dependable internet has become a necessity.

The HostingAdvice survey highlights something many residents already suspect, that businesses and homes may be receiving very different levels of service.

And for Texans who depend on the internet for their livelihood, reliability isn’t just a convenience, it’s essential.
