Only One Farmer’s Almanac Is Ending, and It’s Not the Yellow One
Now hold up, before we panic…
The yellow Old Farmer’s Almanac, the one Texans grew up with, the one with the bright yellow cover, you know the one sitting on feed store counters and kitchen tables, that one isn’t going anywhere. It’s the other 'Farmers’ Almanac' that will end after the 2026 edition. Like many Texans, I assumed a piece of our history was coming to an end.

But here’s the truth:
The Old Farmer’s Almanac (yellow cover, founded in 1792) is NOT ending.
The Farmers’ Almanac (founded in 1818) will publish its final edition in 2026.
The confusion comes from something most of us never knew:
There are actually two different almanacs.
The One Ending, Farmers’ Almanac (1818-2026)
- Orange/green cover
- Based in Maine
- Known for folklore, sayings, and general seasonal predictions
- Will stop printing after its 2026 edition
This is the version that recently announced it’s shutting down due to changing media economics.
The One Staying, The Old Farmer’s Almanac (1792-Present)
- Iconic yellow cover
- The one Texans grew up with
- Focuses on long-range weather forecasts, planting calendars, moon phases, and
- recipes
- Still printing, still available in stores and online
This is the one we reach for when we want to know:
- When to plant tomatoes before that late cold snap,
- Whether we’re headed toward a scorcher of a summer,
- Or what to cook using Grandma’s favorite Almanac recipe.
Why Texans Care So Much
For generations, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has been more than a book.
It's a tradition, something handed down like a family secret.
We flip through it to plan gardens, track the seasons, and get a sense of what Mother Nature might throw at us next. Knowing it will continue feels like holding onto a little piece of our past.
The tradition isn’t ending. The yellow Old Farmer’s Almanac lives on.
