Texas Dog Lovers Get Ready for the Abilene Kennel Club Dog Show
If you love dogs, this is one West Texas event you’ll definitely want to check out. The Abilene Kennel Club is bringing back its popular All-Breed Dog Show 2026 to the Expo Center of Taylor County, and if it’s anything like last year, expect hundreds of beautiful dogs, proud owners, and plenty of tail-wagging excitement.
As someone who broadcast live from the event last year, I can tell you firsthand this isn’t just a dog show, it’s an experience. Whether you’re a lifelong dog owner, thinking about getting a new puppy, or simply love animals as I do, this event is a lot of fun for the entire family.
Texas Dogs Will Take Center Stage
The Abilene Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show runs Friday, May 15th, through Sunday, May 17th, 2026, at the Taylor County Expo Center located at 1700 Texas Highway 36 in Abilene.
Show times begin at 9 a.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Best of all? Admission and parking are absolutely free.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will get the chance to see hundreds of dogs from a wide variety of breeds competing in several different events.
More Than Just a Texas Dog Show
This event includes much more than simply watching dogs walk around a ring.
Guests can enjoy:
- Conformation judging featuring various dog breeds
- Obedience trials that test how well dogs respond to commands
- Rally competitions featuring obstacle-style challenges
- Junior Showmanship events featuring young handlers
- National Owner Handled Series competitions
- AKC Puppy competitions for dogs under six months old
- Pee-Wee competitions introducing the youngest future dog handlers
One of the coolest parts of this event is watching the bond between dogs and their owners. Some of these handlers spend countless hours training with their animals, and it really shows once they enter the ring.

West Texans Love Their Dogs
Dog stories and pet events always seem to connect with people across Texas, especially here in the Big Country, where animals are part of the family. From rescued pets to working ranch dogs to pampered house pups, Texans simply love their dogs.
I’ve worked closely with animal rescue groups here in Abilene for years, and anytime there’s an event celebrating animals, it usually brings out big crowds and lots of smiles.
If you’re looking for something family-friendly and different to do that weekend, this may be one of the best free events happening in Abilene.
