Abilene’s Popular Swimming Pools Are Opening Up Find Out When and Where
Abilene area swimming pools are opening up for the 2022 season. While most pools are still trying to staff up, several are opening and offering swim lessons. Most pools are open to the public however, there are a few that require a membership.
Here are the pools you will find in and around Abilene. The Adventure Cove at Rose Park has swimming pools and fun slides. The Abilene Swim Club, Lytle Shores Swim Club aka The Dive Spot, the YMCA's indoor pool, and my absolute favorite the Abilene State Park nestled underneath all those beautiful oak trees in Buffalo Gap.
The Adventure Cove at Rose Park
At the City of Abilene Adventure Cove in Rose Park, your family will get to enjoy a leisure pool with an awesome zero-depth beach entry, a relaxing lazy river, several fun water slides, a concession stand, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
The adventure Cove is set to open on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM. After that their hours will be as follows:
- Monday: 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm
- Tues-Sat: 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
- Sunday: 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The cost of admission is $4 for kids under 48” tall, $6 for kids 48” and over, $7 for adults (18yrs & older), and children 2 years old or under are free.
Abilene Swim Club
The Abilene Swim Club is a "private members only" pool. Non-members can swim but must be accompanied by a member. Call now for pool membership as pool memberships are limited.
The Abilene Swim Club is the only pool with a high-diving board in Abilene. The eight-foot high-dive has lots of takers climbing the ladder. It also features a couple of great kids' slides and an awesome tree-covered picnic area.
The pool's hours will vary, check their online calendar for hours as they fluctuate daily. For membership availability visit the Abilene Swim Club website or call 325-704-8714 on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm.
Abilene State Park Pool
The Abilene State Park pool is the oldest swimming pool in West TX and has been operated continuously since 1934. This is a more picturesque environment with huge oak trees surrounding the Abilene State Park pool area.
The pool will open Saturday, May 28, 2022, just before Memorial Day. The cool part about the Abilene State Park swimming pool is that it operates by swim sessions.
For example swim session one runs from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM and swim session two runs from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Friday and Saturday there are three swim sessions the third one runs from 6:00 PM until 8:45 PM.
The State Park pool is only open Wednesday thru Sunday and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The cost to get into the pool is $1 for 12 and under and $2 for 13 and up plus the park entrance fee. Please know that during the regular season, the pool reaches maximum capacity on weekends.
For more about Abilene State Park, visit their website. or call the Abilene State Park at 800-792-1112 for more information.
Lytle Shores Swim Club / The Dive Spot
The Lytle Shores Swim Club formerly 'The Dive Spot' is in my opinion the best place for kids to learn how to swim. Several of my children graduated from the Dive Spots swim classes.
Furthermore, this pool is open to the public and is extremely family-friendly. Hours may vary as swim lessons are taught all throughout the day. Admission is free for children age 2 and under with a paid adult, and only $4 per person over the age of 3.
The Lytle Shores swim club also offers water aerobics, and scuba lessons (this is where I got dive certified). This Swim Club offers a kiddie pool, sand volleyball lot, a tennis court, basketball goal, and a jungle gym with swings.
Located at 1701 Lytle Trail, Abilene. Visit their website for more information.
The YMCA Indoor Pool
The YMCA has what it takes to run a pool, a great staff, and awesome facilities. The indoor pools are great during cold/freezing weather. However, on 100-degree days, the ambient room temperature at the pool was just as hot as outside.
The YMCA pool has open swim sessions beginning at 5:30 am and continues off and on throughout the day until 8:45 pm daily. Check the YMCA's schedule as the times change on a daily basis.
The YMCA membership cost varies per membership and/or family. For more information about the Abilene Area YMCA. Here are directions to the YMCA on Abilene's south side.
This year the temperatures have already hit the 90s a couple of times before spring even hit, so finding a nice pool to cool off in is very important. Now let's get ready to go swimming!
