Tim McGraw, Lori McKenna Pen ‘Gravity’ for ‘Free Solo’ Film [Listen]
Tim McGraw's music will be featured in the upcoming film Free Solo, a documentary that tells the story of mountain climber Alex Honnald as he sets out to scale the 3,200-foot El Capitan in Yosemite National Park alone and without a rope.
The singer co-wrote "Gravity" with esteemed songwriter Lori McKenna, and the song plays a pivotal part in the film.
"Proud to let you know about a song I wrote with the amazing @LoriMckennaMA," McGraw shares on Twitter. “'Gravity' is for the documentary 'Free Solo' about @AlexHonnold & his pursuit to free solo climb El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Can’t wait to see this one in theaters this fall! #FreeSolo #Gravity."
5 Times Tim McGraw Broke the Internet
Mcgraw included a 30-second clip of the song against a video that shows him in the studio, giving direction to musicians and producers.
"I like this tone, just be aggressive," the country star suggests.
Free Solo was directed by Chai Vasarhelyi and photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin. It hits theaters on Sept. 28.
“There are few people who pursue their passion with the fearlessness of Alex Honnold. It’s both terrifying and exhilarating to be on that journey with him when you watch Free Solo,” McGraw tells the Boston Globe. “Lori McKenna and I wanted the lyrics of ‘Gravity’ to be a reminder that fear is a battle fought on a variety of planes, from mental to spiritual to physical. We tend to think ‘fearlessness’ is synonymous with big bold gestures, but there’s also a fragility inherent in risk — and we wanted that to come through.”
