‘The Voice': Kirk Jay Gives Sam Hunt a Run for His Money With ‘Body Like a Back Road’
The Voice Season 15 live finals revved up the beginning of the week Monday (Nov. 26), with the Top 11 singers performing fan-chosen songs for the special "Fan Night." As always, the show contained its share of twists and turns, including some stellar performances of country music.
Kirk Jay has been building a steady reputation for wringing hearts with his perfectly calibrated delivery of wrenching country ballads (Rascal Flatts, Lonestar) on the show—along with his ability to reduce Coach Blake Shelton to a puddle of stark emotion. This time, he decided to kick things up a notch while still staying in the country lane, whipping the crowd up with Sam Hunt's smash hit "Body Like a Back Road."
The singer started off mellow enough, seated behind a keyboard, but soon got up and showed the audience he could shake it. It's not the easiest thing for a vocalist to seamlessly bop from weepers to earthy anthems, but Jay had that transition down pretty well. There was very little fault to find in this particluar performance, which coach Shelton agreed with, calling him "one of a kind." Will America agree? We'll have to see.
The Voice will continue on tomorrow (Nov. 27), with America sending one singer home. Stay tuned!
