Stephen Colbert was ecstatic on Monday night's episode of 'The Colbert Report' when he learned that John Lennon may have been a closet Republican.

According to a man who worked for Lennon, the musician once said he was considering voting for Ronald Reagan over Jimmy Carter. This was all the evidence Colbert needed.

"I cannot wait to rub this in the face of all those peacenik hippies, who've been singing Lennon songs in their anarchist, pansexual, macrobiotic, pot-smoking drum circles," he said.

Then, Colbert started analyzing Lennon's songs for hidden conservative messages. "'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' is an obvious coded message supporting supply-side economics," he said. "Because, sooner or later, Lucy's sky diamonds would trickle down."
