Britain’s Prince Harry to Train at US Military Bases This Fall
Prince Harry, or Capt. Harry Wales as he is known to his friends, will spend two months in America training on Apache helicopter gunships.
In October, the 26-year-old British prince will participate in military exercises at the Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field in southern Arizona and at the Navy’s airfield in El Centro, California. The training is part of a two-month series of maneuvers dubbed ‘Exercise Crimson Eagle,’ in which British aviators practice flying the Apaches in terrain similar to southern Afghanistan.
Harry is the younger son of Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, and the late Princess Diana. He served on the front line in Afghanistan as a forward air controller for two months, but was withdrawn from combat in 2008 after news of his deployment became public. Harry’s brother, William, is also an army officer, but as second in line to the throne, he is unable to participate in combat.
