Memorial Day Storms Destroy Transmitter Building – KYYW Temporarily Aired on 1280

Memorial Day 2012 will definitely be one that we remember here at KYYW-AM as the storms that hit destroyed our transmitter building; taking us off air for many hours. While the damage is being repaired, you can hear KYYW on 1280AM.

The extremely high winds peeled back the roof of our transmitter building like a banana. Another casualty of the storm was our STL tower, which is what receives the signal from the radio station (then sends to the transmitter to broadcast to all of you).

While we assess and repair the extensive damage we have been fortunate enough to flip our broadcast over to 1280AM so you don't miss any of your favorite News/Talk programming on KYYW.
