Former Texas Tech and Washington Redskins football player Curtis Jordan (pictured) has been sued in a civil suit in federal court in Virginia.

According to The Virginia Pilot, the $31 million lawsuit was filed by 47-year-old Jamie Dale, an ex-girlfriend of Jordan's. She is accusing Jordan of beating her and leaving her for dead in connection with an incident that occurred at a Virginia Beach, Virginia apartment in January 2015.

The lawsuit claims Dale suffered serious, permanent, and debilitating injuries and severe emotional distress.

Jordan's lawyer James Broccoletti told The Virginia Pilot concerning the lawsuit, "It's clearly designed to harass and embarrass Mr. Jordan."

A criminal case concerning the alleged beating is scheduled to go to trial in March. Jordan was charged with malicious wounding, strangulation of another resulting in injuries and felony theft of a firearm. All three charges are felonies.

One of Dale's lawyers, Stephen M. Smith, told The Virginia Pilot, "He beat her almost to death. And he has not shown one bit of remorse."

Jordan had a successful football career, playing high school football at Lubbock ISD's Monterey High School. Then, college football at Texas Tech and professionally in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jordan was a part of the Washington Redskins when they won Super Bowl XVII against the Miami Dolphins.
