Kim Kardashian Apologizes for Saying ‘Insensitive’ R-Word at Halloween Party
These days people are increasingly being (rightfully) called out for offensive Halloween costumes. However, it was Kim Kardashian's mouth that got her in trouble at sister Kendall Jenner's Halloween party Wednesday (October 31) night.
Kardashian channeled Pamela Anderson's iconic look from the 1999 MTV VMAs for the bash, but when guests didn't recognize the reference, the reality TV star took to social media. In a now-deleted Instagram Story video, Kardashian vented her frustration to friend and former assistant Stephanie Shepherd, saying, "Nobody knows who I am...Yeah! Ret---ed."
Oh, girl. We don't do that, especially in 2018.
As expected, Kardashian was quickly hit with backlash online from offended fans throughout the night and into this morning. Today the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star issued a statement apologizing for her choice of words:
"I want to apologize for what I said in a recent video post that is inappropriate and insensitive to the special needs community. I try to learn from my mistakes and this is one of those times. Please know that my intention is always pure, and in this case, it was a mistake. I’m sorry.”
Earlier this week, professional snowboarder Shaun White apologized after facing backlash for his Halloween costume of a character with a development disorder from the 2008 film Tropic Thunder.
We all love looking at celebs' creative Halloween costumes every year, but this is yet another reminder that we need to be more mindful of what we do and say. Plus, it stops being fun when people are genuinely hurt or offended.
