This Independence Day weekend I'm looking for things to see and do. Whether it's the celebrations going on in downtown Abilene or the "Freedom Festival" festivities at the Taylor County Expo Center. I'm sure I'll be looking for a nice cool place to sit and relax for a while.

This year the Historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene will be featuring its classic film series by presenting the July 4th classic "Independence Day" on Saturday, July 3rd. I mean to me, there is nothing more relaxing than sitting under that star-covered ceiling at the air conditioned Paramount Theatre with an ice-cold beverage and a huge bag of the Paramount's delicious popcorn.

This year, I will get to chill and enjoy the classic 1996 award-winning film that stars Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, Mary McDonnell, Randy Quaid, and many other Hollywood greats.

"Independence Day" was the most successful film ever released in 1996, grossing more than $817.4 million dollars worldwide. The movie is about an alien mother ship that lets its presence be known inside the Earth's orbit and that's when all hell starts breaking loose.

A young MIT-educated satellite observer decodes some sounds that he uncovers and deciphers that it's an official alien countdown as the aliens prepare to attack earth and take over. The MIT-tech sounds the alarm and everyone from the President of the United States (played by Bill Pullman) at the Whitehouse to a combat-trained military pilot waking up from a night's sleep (played by Will Smith) and everyone in between jump into action to save Mother Earth from these evil invading aliens.

Find out how this movie ends by getting your tickets early to enjoy a quality evening with your family and/or loved ones at the Paramount Theatre at 352 Cypress Street. Tickets are only $7 for adults, $6 for students, seniors, military, and children.

Check out the two original movie trailers. The one above is the first trailer the was released, while the one below was released as the film had started breaking box office records. The movie is rated PG-13. Enjoy the trailers and I'll see you at the Paramount Theatre.
