School is back in session for all El Paso, Texas schools and that means that you’ll start to see those flashing school zone signs on your way to work or wherever! School zones arent anything new, but it seems as though some drivers still have a problem understanding that when you see a school zone you must DRIVE CAREFULLY!

Far too often have we seen such tragic stories of people speeding in a school zone and not following the correct driving rules all because they were in a hurry.

Most recently FitFam El Paso shared a video of a mom and her young daughter getting hit by a car as they were crossing the street. And the worst part: the driver sped off instead of getting out to check on the mom and daughter!

Texas School Zone Signs Are Not Just Suggestions!

These school zones are built to keep kids safe during their morning hustle and afternoon dash home. With flashing lights, crossing guards, and lower speed limits, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is basically throwing neon signs at you that scream: SLOW. DOWN.

But some folks still think they’re in a Fast & Furious sequel on their way to work. Spoiler alert: speeding through a school zone doesn’t make you cool, it can actually make you broke.

The Safety of Chidren is More Important Than A Fine

Back in 2017 alone, TxDOT reported 811 crashes, 2 tragic deaths, and 30 serious injuries — all because people couldn’t wait an extra two minutes. Every one of those incidents was preventable.

So next time you're running late, remember: being 5 minutes early isn’t worth a $1,000 fine (or worse). Let’s keep school zones boring and kids safe. Your wallet and conscience will thank you.
