Seventeen years ago, Fort Hood was the target of an Islamic attack. On December 3rd, the victims of that attack will see justice served.
Execution Date Set for Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan
Seventeen years after one of the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism on a U.S. military installation, official preparations are underway to carry out the death sentence of former Army Major Nidal Hasan. In a series of official social media announcements released Tuesday night, Department of War officials confirmed that the former military psychiatrist turned Islamic extremist will face a firing squad on December 3 at 1:00 p.m.
Method of Execution Approved by White House and Pentagon Leadership
The decision regarding the execution method followed a formal recommendation from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, which received swift presidential authorization from President Trump. The venue selected for the capital punishment carries profound symbolism: the execution will take place directly on the grounds of Fort Hood, the large Texas military base where Hasan carried out his devastating attack.
A Dark Legacy at Central Texas Base
Hasan's Islamic attack was carried out in November 2009 inside a crowded medical readiness center, where dozens of soldiers were standing in line to receive pre-deployment immunizations. Hasan murdered 12 military service members along with one civilian, leaving 32 others wounded. The rampage only ended when responding law enforcement officers engaged Hasan in a shootout, striking him in the back and leaving him permanently paralyzed from the chest down.
Hasan Admits to the Murders
During his 2013 court-martial, Hasan openly admitted to the killings, framing his violent actions as a defense of Taliban leadership in Afghanistan. He was convicted on all counts and sentenced to death by a military jury.
Historic Milestone for Military Justice
When the sentence is carried out in early December, it will mark a historic moment for the United States armed forces. Hasan will become the first military service member to be executed by the armed services since 1961.
