Debt is something that everybody worries about in Texas.
Everything in the Lone Star State costs money. Sometimes, the item needed is over our budget. Which in turn, requires us to spend more funds than we have.
As everyone knows getting into debt is easy, but getting out of it is easier said than done. Due to multiple factors, as the number climbs higher and higher, it gets more difficult to get out of debt. Safe to say, it's not fun to be in debt.
Sadly, some in the state of Texas know this issue all too well. Recent data has shown that unfortunately, one city in Texas is the number one city in the nation for debt.
Which Texas City Leads The Nation In Debt?
To find out the answer, we turn to LendingTree. They used these factors, which of course were different types of debt:
- Auto loans
- Credit cards
- Student loans
- Personal loans
- Other types of debt, excluding mortgages
So with all of the data collected, what city has the title of most debt in the nation? Well, it none other the capital of the state, Austin. Here's the averages of debt, as reported by LendingTree:
Auto loan debt: $17,144
Credit card debt: $9,313
Nonmortgage debt: $45,920
Personal loan debt: $4,638
Student loan debt: $11,162
What's even more surprising you ask? The second, third, and sixth cities in the list are located in the Lone Star State. San Antonio placed second, third was Houston, and Dallas was sixth.
