Hub City Renaissance Faire Returns To Lubbock This October

Hear ye! Hear ye! Lubbock's Hub City Renaissance Faire returns this October for much merriment, mirth... and possibly some of those large turkey legs.

Details About Hub City Renaissance Faire

The Faire is set for Saturday, October 24th, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will be held at and around LHUCA (511 Avenue K), including adjacent buildings like the Icehouse. Tickets will be $5 with kids 12 and under free, making it a very affordable outing for families (but you'll probably want to bring some extra for food and the wonderful art vendors, too).

What To Expect At Hub City Renaissance Faire

[UPDATE: the theme this year is "Return to the Shire" so think Lord of the Rings!]

While this year's theme has not yet been announced, you can expect live entertainment and demonstrations, artists, vendor booths, lots of folks in costume, and all-around great vibes. LHUCA will likely post a schedule of events closer to the event so you can plan your whole day if you like, or just browse around at your leisure. You are not required to dress in medieval attire to attend, but it sure is fun if you happen to have some.

Why A Renaissance Faire?

As a history nerd, I deeply love the Late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. It was a time of high art, extremely skilled craftsmen, a surge in literacy, and the birth of Humanism, the notion that all people are worthy of respect and agency, and that a better world can be achieved through science, logic, and reason. I love the colors and textures and script and aesthetic, and that is part of what you get at a Renaissance Faire.

It's also appealing in that it is an immersive experience for attendees, allowing anyone to lose themselves in the theatricality of it all. I suppose all of this is a long way around of saying, "It's fun," especially if you allow yourself to sink into the experience.
