KFMX and the RockShow Celebrate Another #1 in Lubbock
I awoke Sunday morning filled with gratitude.
I had spent the previous day at the Getty Villa, a recreation of a Roman villa filled with artifacts from a civilization long gone. It’s impactful, to say the least, and a great reminder that no matter how permanent something may seem in the moment, time has a way of putting everything into perspective.
Empires rise. Empires change. Some disappear completely.
Radio is certainly changing too.
Some of the biggest operators in the business are struggling after years of trying to become bigger and bigger. There are lessons there about growth, debt, priorities, and remembering the people who helped build the foundation in the first place.
But I don’t want this to be about somebody else’s empire.
I want to talk about ours.
Radio continues to reach an enormous audience. We share people's time with streaming and satellite just like we once shared it with cassettes and CDs. In fact, plenty of people who stream their music also stream us. Go ahead and Google the facts about radio’s reach when you’re finished reading this. It may surprise you.
And That Brings Me Back Home To Lubbock
We are now midway through our 45th year, and once again you have given us an incredible stamp of approval.
It’s humbling.
We are again the #1 rock station in Lubbock, Texas, and the RockShow is the #1 morning show across the board.
And maybe the most amazing part of all is this: our audience is still growing!
Forty-five years in, despite all of the distractions, more people are choosing to spend more time with us.
Think about that for a second.
Trends have come and gone. Technology has changed. The way people consume music has changed. Entire formats and companies have disappeared. Yet somehow, through all of it, you continue to invite FMX into your cars, workplaces, homes, phones, and lives.
Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in a world full of haters, detractors, and doomsayers. I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little satisfaction in proving them wrong time and time again.
But I’d rather spend my energy appreciating the people who continue to prove us right.
You.
I’m filled with gratitude for your amazing support. Because you rock, we get to rock a little bit longer.
Our little empire isn’t crumbling.
It’s still standing.
Better yet, it’s thriving.
And that’s because of you.

Forty-five years into our empire, we’re still here.
And we’re incredibly grateful.
