Mutton Busters Show Out At Wednesday’s Angelina Benefit Rodeo

You may want to remember the name, Cane Phillips. A month ago, he set the all-time high score for a mutton busting ride at the Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo with a score of 98 points.

On Wednesday, April 22, the 5-year-old cowboy had another amazing mutton busting ride, scoring 89 points on Lamborghini. Many of today's top professional rodeo cowboys got their start at a young age riding in mutton busting competitions. With that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised to hear the name Cane Phillips called out someday in Las Vegas.

Wednesday's Mutton Busters

Phillips had the top ride of the night at the Angelina Benefit Rodeo, but there were other great rides. Luke Pinner of Lufkin had an impressive ride of 86 points, while Sydney Mayberry of Huntington rounded out the top three with a score of 82 points. Other riders included Kate Alvis, Maverick Boles, Avery Goodwin, Whitten Kendrick, Baylee Lawrence, Maggie McCall, Maggie Nieto, Cole Spencer, and Weston Whitley.

The Angelina Benefit Rodeo is presented by the Lufkin Host Lions Club. This rodeo continues to draw some of the top cowboys and cowgirls in the PRCA, and for the first time, the Angelina Benefit Rodeo is a qualifying rodeo for the world-famous Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Tickets are still available at Boot Barn, located at the Lufkin Mall.
