Beware: The FDA Warns This Popular Tiktok Challenge With Nyquil Spells Danger
It seems as if there's yet another social media challenge that health experts are warning teens and parents about. It involves taking your choice of meat (namely chicken) and marinating it in Nyquil or other similar over-the-counter medications and then boiling it to cook it.
Not only does it seem unappetizing to me but it can also be hazardous. Part of the danger comes from cooking. The experts say that boiling any medication can change the potency of the ingredients as well as change its properties.

Even if one doesn't eat the chicken, inhaling the vapors while it's cooking could cause high levels of the drug to enter your body. This can damage your lungs or worse. In other words, you could be taking in a dangerous amount of the drug and not even know it.
Unfortunately, these dangerous challenges are nothing new. An earlier challenge instructed people to take large amounts of Benedryl or other similar medications. This would then induce hallucinations. Reports started coming in regarding teens having to go to the emergency room, and in some cases dying, due to the challenge and ingesting too much of the medication.
There are things you can do to prevent these things from happening to your children.
Experts recommend keeping both OTC and prescription medication away and out of the reach of children. Lock up these types of medications. Additionally, sit down with your children and explain to them the dangers of misusing drugs and how social media in today's society plays a part.
