With a population of approximately 150,000 in Abilene, we have plenty of vehicles on the road here. Cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, you name it - Abilene is a city of hustle and bustle. As with many Abilenians, I drive on Clack and Danville streets every day. If it's not commuting to work and home, it's running to the store and other errands. In a nutshell, I drive them both a lot.

Turn Signals Don't Mean Anything

Sometimes when driving on Clack and Danville, it's necessary to change lanes for whatever reason. Nothing is more frustrating than needing to turn or merge, and never getting the chance even though your signal is flashing. You know the other driver sees it. It's just plain rude. Not to mention dangerous. I can't tell you how many times I've needed to make a turn but had to circle the block because there was never an opportunity given. It can be maddening.

Although Speed Limits Are Posted, Many Don't Obey Them

The speed limit I saw posted is 45mph. Yet folks zip right on past. Speed can kill and it has. We all have places to be. The important thing is to get there in one piece. I have noticed lately that Abilene Police have been doing a great job controlling speed with radar-equipped units on Danville close to South 14th.
