Man, I miss the days when bass competitions were everywhere, especially around Abilene, Texas.

Remember When You Could Hear a Car Before You Saw It?

You’d pull into a parking lot and see somebody’s trunk packed tighter than a tour bus with subwoofers, amplifiers, batteries, and enough wiring to make an electrician nervous. Then the bass would hit, the windows would flex, and your shirt would start moving even though there wasn’t any wind.

Unfortunately, this one isn’t happening in Abilene, but it might be worth a little West Texas road trip thanks to the folks at Kingdom Audio in Abilene.

San Angelo Is Bringing Back the Boom

The 19th Annual West Texas Shakedown rolls into Concho Valley Dragway in San Angelo on Saturday and Sunday, September 26–27. The two-day event will feature custom cars and trucks, drag racing, burnouts, and plenty of killer rides, hosted by Abilene’s own Kingdom Audio.

Sunday is when things get seriously loud.

Kingdom Audio will host a full-blown bass competition with classes including Single Sub, Trunk Build, Blow Through, Open Air, Wall, Extreme, Best Demo, Under Seat Truck, and a 1,000-watts-and-below category.

In other words, you don’t need a vehicle packed with 27 subwoofers and powered by a small nuclear reactor to compete.

Could Abilene Be Next?

Entry is $20 for the first class and $10 for each additional class, with two runs per class. For bass competition information, call 325-704-1072.

The West Texas Shakedown takes place at Concho Valley Dragway, 7955 Arden Road in San Angelo, Texas.

Hopefully, Drew and the guys at Kingdom Audio decide to bring bass competitions back here. Until then, load up the ride, point it south, and prepare to have your internal organs rearranged in San Angelo, Texas.
