Most people, including me, who drive to and from the Dallas/Fort Worth area notice that castle sitting on the hilltop just above the New York Hill Restaurant. What's in the castle? Are there dragons? Is there an epic battle between He-Man and Skeletor?

Of course, my imagination always takes me to that old Monty Python movie, "Search for the Holy Grail" where we learned how far a swallow could carry a coconut. Although this castle is "very nice" (to quote the movie) the one in Thurber isn't from that movie.

Thurber Castle

Known as Greystone Castle, this royal estate is the centerpiece of a 6,000-acre ranch used for hunting, weddings, and all kinds of other events.

The Thurber-Mingus area of Texas used to thrive as massive amounts of immigrants moved there to work in the railroad and coal mining industries. But, by the 1930s, railroads moved away from using coal power which eventually dried up any employment opportunities in the area.

So while Thurber may be but a ghost town, Greystone Castle is thriving with life thanks to the crowds who flock to the place for trophy hunts, fishing, and more.

Take a moment to look at some of the photos of Greystone Castle in the gallery below.

How cool would it be to go through this castle? I would totally dress up like Skeletor from the He-Man series and check out the castle myself. Who's with me?
