Texas Moves to Ban THC: What SB 3 Means for Veterans and Chronic Pain Patients
Texas is on the brink of a major shift in cannabis policy, and not in a good way. A new bill, SB 3, has passed the state legislature and now sits on Governor Abbott’s desk, threatening to ban all hemp-derived THC products. But the fight is not over.
For thousands of Texans, including veterans battling PTSD, chronic pain sufferers like my mom, and small business owners, this ban could be devastating. Here's why this bill is a significant issue, and what we can do to address it.
The People It Will Hurt The Most
Let’s be clear, banning hemp-derived THC products doesn’t just inconvenience a few consumers who use it recreationally. But it devastates entire communities. Veterans who rely on Delta-8 to manage PTSD without heavy pharmaceuticals could lose access to one of the few natural treatments that work.

Seniors dealing with arthritis, cancer survivors managing pain and nausea, and countless others use these products to find relief. My mother is one of them. She’s not a stoner. She’s not trying to get high. She’s trying to get through her day with a little less pain. And products derived from hemp help her do that.

For years, many of these folks purchased these products illegally for relief. With a ban, many will choose to go back to that. The problem I have with that is that these days, you don't know exactly what others may be mixing with the product.
8 Billion Dollar Industry At Risk
SB 3 doesn’t just target users, it threatens the livelihoods of thousands of Texans employed by the hemp industry. According to industry estimates, the Texas hemp market was worth around $8 billion in 2022, and it continues to grow.
From local farmers to small business owners who sell these products legally and responsibly, SB 3 puts their futures in jeopardy. These aren’t shady operations, they're Texas entrepreneurs fueling a growing, legitimate market.
How You Can Join The Fight Against SB 3
Texans across the state are rallying together to ask Governor Abbott to do the right thing and veto SB 3. A petition by CBD House of Healing is circulating that makes a powerful case:
We, the undersigned citizens of Texas, call on Governor Abbott to reject SB 3 and any proposals banning products containing legal hemp: a decision that would harm veterans, senior citizens, patients, and consumers across the state.
This petition is about protecting choice, well-being, and economic freedom in Texas. It’s a message to our leaders: hemp is a resource, not a threat. If you want to join the fight, sign the petition here.
Final Thoughts On Potential Ban
Banning THC products doesn’t solve a problem, it creates new ones. Pain won’t disappear. PTSD won’t heal itself. Jobs won’t magically come back. What SB 3 really does is take away options from people who are trying to live better lives without having to rely on the government's pharmaceutical business.
So, Governor Abbott, on behalf of my mom, our veterans, Texas farmers, and thousands of your fellow Texans, we’re asking you to listen.
Please veto SB 3. Let Texans choose natural alternatives. Let Texans heal.
