Independence Brewing's Oklahoma Suks Beer Returns For Texas Matchup

There are college football games, there are rivalries, and then there's Texas vs. Oklahoma.

Around Abilene and West Texas, you don't have to look very hard to find burnt orange or crimson when Red River Rivalry weekend rolls around. Friends talk trash. Families get divided. Somebody gets way out of hand before halftime. You know, tradition.

And this year, I've got the perfect beer for the occasion.

Yes, There's Really a Beer Called Oklahoma Suks

Last year on The Weekend Buzz, I sampled a beer from Austin's Independence Brewing Company called Oklahoma Suks. Yes. That's actually the name.

The beer is Independence Brewing's Austin Amber dressed up specifically for Texas-OU season, complete with burnt-orange packaging and an upside-down Oklahoma. It's a 4.9% ABV amber ale, but let's face it, nobody is buying this thing because they're into the beer stats.

They're buying it because it says Oklahoma Suks on the dang can! And Independence Brewing has brought it back just in time for this year's showdown. Pick some up at your favorite package store and enjoy responsibly.

Texas and Oklahoma Meet Again at the Cotton Bowl

This Saturday, Texas and Oklahoma renew one of the nastiest rivalries in college football at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Texas comes into the game ranked No. 1, while Oklahoma would love nothing more than to wreck the Longhorns' perfect season. And that's exactly why rankings don't mean much in this game. When these two get together, weird stuff happens.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. this Saturday, October 10.

So here's my question for Abilene and the Big Country: Who's winning, Texas or Oklahoma? And for my Sooners friends, I've got an even better question: Would you drink a cold beer called Oklahoma Suks if I handed you one?

Hook 'em...or Boomer Sooner. Pick your poison. For me, I say “Hook ‘Em!”
