Good Food, Great Cause: Tuscola Fires Up the Grill for the Jim Ned VFD
There’s nothing small about small-town spirit, especially in Tuscola, Texas, where good food and good people always find a reason to gather. Such is the case on November 1st, the opening of deer season in the Lone Star State.
Opening Of Deer Season In Texas & Fundraiser
On November 1st, the opening of deer season in Texas, the crew at Broken Diamond Wild Game Processing is firing up the grill at 217 Garza Street for their annual lunch and fundraiser supporting the Jim Ned Volunteer Fire Department.

I caught up with firefighter Sam Stanaland, who’s been serving the Jim Ned community for years. He says events like this are what keep their department rolling. “We’re 100 percent volunteer,” Sam told me, “so every dollar helps us maintain gear, equipment, and training.”

When the Smoke Rises, So Does Texas
If you’ve been looking for a reason to get out, meet your neighbors, and support a good cause, this is it.
If there’s one thing that gets West Texans moving, it’s the smell of lunch on the smoker. Expect plenty of food, laughs, and maybe even a few legendary hunting stories. (No promises on whether squirrel chili makes a surprise appearance.)
Broken Diamond has become a community hub, especially during deer season, but November 1st isn’t just about wild game; it’s about wild generosity. Local businesses are encouraged to pitch in, sponsor, or just show up hungry.
Swing by Broken Diamond Wild Game Processing on Friday, November 1, grab lunch, and back the Jim Ned Volunteer Fire Department, who always show up when it matters most.
