Winter in Texas is right around the corner and though it doesn't get as cold as up north, we still have spells of sub-freezing temperatures. As many folks prepare to get their coats out from the back of the closet, we must remember that many AISD students don't have that luxury.

Once again, we've teamed up with Ingram Cleaners for the 11th Annual Arrow Ford 'Coats for Kids' drive. With your help, we can decrease the number of students without coats during the upcoming winter months.

According to AISD Liason, Darren Cox, Abilene ISD's Homeless Student Program helps 1400 students annually who have been identified as homeless. With the economy the way it is right now, it is even more important to help these students who can't afford simple things, like coats.

Coats For Kids

You can help these kids by donating a gently used or a new coat. We need all sizes, from ages 3 to 18. Monetary donations are also being accepted and will be used to purchase new coats, so if you would like to make a donation, please do.

We also want to ensure that each coat donated is cleaned properly before giving it to a student in need. So we have teamed up once again with the awesome Lynn Ingram and Ingram Cleaners, who are our official drop-off location and cleaners of all coats and jackets.

When is the Coats for Kids drive?

This year's Coats for Kids drive will take place from October 28th through November 23rd.

Where do I take my coat donations?

Please take all donations of coats and jackets to Ingram Cleaners which has two locations in Abilene at 1514 South Treadaway and 2666 Buffalo Gap Road. They are open 7 am-6 pm, Monday through Friday, and 9 am-1 pm on Saturdays.

What about monetary donations?

We are accepting monetary donations at the Townsquare studios in Abilene. You can drop off your donation between 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday at 3911 South 1st Street. If you're paying with a check, please write it to Townsquare Media and put "Coats for Kids" in the memo line.

We need approximately 2,000 coats for the combined schools participating in the Coats for Kids drive. Please donate generously. These kids depend on it.

For more information, or want to help please send me an email and I'll respond as soon as possible.

A huge thanks to Ingram Cleaners, whom we have partnered with over the years, as well as Arrow Ford, SignTex of AbileneNeon Moon Hat Company, Geico of Abilene, Pam's Pets, and Wilson Wrecker Service for their support.

But most of all, we thank those who have donated over the years and/or plan to donate again this year. We couldn't help these kids stay warm without your help.
