The National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater is celebrating and hosting its annual WASP Museum's Homecoming and Fly-In and this year's theme is "Journey to the Stars." By the way, W.A.S.P. stands for Women Air Service Pilots during World War two women were very instrumental as part of the WAC.

The WAC better known as the Women's Army Corps trained them to work in dozens of non-combat specialties which then freed up the men for combat service. An even smaller, more select group of women (the best of the best) were allowed to join the Women Air Service Pilots (WASP). Thus the annual celebration at the WASP museum.

LOOK: These Are Some of the Aircraft That Come to the WASP Museum

I firmly believe that we should never forget those Americans that fought to preserve the freedoms we have in the United States of America. The National WASP Museum in Sweetwater invites all Warbirds to Avenger Field for this awesome celebration.

Look to the skies during the 2023 WASP Homecoming to see a beautiful display of US History. Above you will see photos of all the incredible aircraft that have graced Avenger Field and WASP Museum in the past.

Don't miss this golden opportunity to attend as one of only two in the world B-29s will be coming to Avenger Field this B-29 is nicknamed "Doc". There will also be an exclusive lineup of aircraft coming in for this event.

What I think is the coolest part of all, is that some aircraft pilots are selling rides, yep real rides on their vintage aircraft. So get your ride tickets early and check out the WASP Museum website regularly for all the ticket information, or call them at (325) 235-0099.

The Homecoming and Fly-In will be held on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 9, 2023. You are invited to celebrate the important contributions, and history that the WASP made during World War II. The National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater is located at Avenger Field the very same training grounds most of the Women Airforce Service Pilots were trained at.

The best way to honor America’s first women to fly a military aircraft and assist the war effort is by attending and honoring the WASP legacy.

Furthermore, Mz Hunt says, "all-female crews will be in attendance with Air Force, Army, Marine, and Navy aircraft at Avenger Field. Plus all visitors will enjoy many other activities including the opening of two exhibits: a permanent exhibit on the American history of Black Pilots by historian Monica Smith and a special temporary exhibit of John and Marie Clark, B-17 and WASP pilots respectively (courtesy of the Yankee Air Museum).

Saturday's events include the fly-in, static aircraft displays, various free activities; and the "Sunset On The Square" concert featuring the Brad Russell Band in downtown Sweetwater on the corner of Oak Street and Broadway from 7 PM until 11 PM.

LOOK: What 25 Historic Battlefields Look Like Today

The following is an examination of what became of the sites where America waged its most important and often most brutal campaigns of war. Using a variety of sources, Stacker selected 25 historically significant battlefields in American history. For each one, Stacker investigated what happened there when the battles raged as well as what became of those hallowed grounds when the fighting stopped.

These are the battlefields that defined the United States military’s journey from upstart Colonial rebels to an invincible global war machine.
