Governor Abbott has just declared war on all sexual assault in the Lone Star State, by declaring April the official Sexual Assault Awareness Month for Texas.

Why Texas Must Stand United Against Sexual Assault

As a lifelong Texan, I will not sit quietly. I will speak out, this has to stop NOW! Over the weekend, my wife and I were talking about this very issue after hearing another heartbreaking story in the news. Sexual assault is still happening in our communities, affecting women, children, and yes, even men. It’s wrong. It’s a sin. And when offenders are caught, they deserve the harshest penalties our justice system can give.

We must protect one another, speak up, and be strong together. Texas may not be the worst state for sexual assaults, but that doesn’t make it okay. Our goal should be zero, because in Texas, we value life, love, and respect above all.

A Statewide Call to Action from Governor Abbott

Governor Greg Abbott has officially proclaimed April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month in Texas. In his proclamation, he stated:

“Every person is worthy of respect and protection, especially from acts of sexual violence.”

Governor Abbott continues to push for full prosecution of every offender and the empowerment of every survivor.

Why Texas Leads the Nation in Survivor Support

Texas is at the forefront when it comes to trauma response, justice, and protecting survivors. Our state stays focused on both adult and child survivors, listening to their stories, believing them, and arresting offenders while enforcing the strictest punishments allowed under Texas law.

What I find most amazing is that Texas has the Sexual Assault Survivors Task Force (SASTF), a team truly dedicated to making sure survivors have a voice. Their website even addresses most of the common questions and concerns survivors might have. Plus, yes we in Texas take care of our own with help from sources like Resources for Survivors. Please do me a huge favor, step up and support these organizations right here in Texas.

Texans Must Do More Than Just Observe

This April, don’t just wear ribbons or post hashtags like #SAAPM2025. Listen. Support. Speak up. Teach our children the value of consent and respect. Show survivors they’re not alone, and make it clear. Texas does not tolerate sexual violence in any form.

If you are someone who has committed or is committing this crime, stop. Get help. Turn yourself in. Because justice WILL catch up to you, and we Texans will not look the other way.

Let’s Be the State That Ends This

We always say everything's bigger in Texas, including our hearts. So let’s use that big Texas love to protect the vulnerable, empower survivors, and end sexual assault once and for all. Source: Texas Governor’s Office
