Job Seekers Rejoice As Texas Adds Over 213,000 Jobs This Year
Texas just added 28,100 jobs in May, setting a new record high for total job count, again. That marks six straight months of record-breaking employment growth, and our state isn’t slowing down.

The total number of nonfarm jobs now sits at 14.34 million, with more than 213,000 jobs added over the past six months, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. Our growth rate of 1.5% still beats the national average.
Abilene in the Top 15 for Jobs
While Abilene didn’t top the Texas charts, it’s far from the bottom. With an unemployment rate of just 3.4%, Abilene ranks among the top five lowest unemployment metros in the state, beating out dozens of others, according to the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.
If you’re in West Texas and saying, “I can’t find a job,” I’ll say this: It’s hard to find one when you’re not looking. From local retailers and restaurants to tech and construction firms, Abilene’s small businesses are hiring, and they’re looking for hard workers.
Where the Jobs Are Booming
In May alone, these industries led the way in job growth across Texas:
- Trade, Transportation, and Utilities: +8,400 jobs
- Leisure and Hospitality: +8,200 jobs
- Education and Health Services: +4,300 jobs
- Construction: 3.4% annual growth (1.9% higher than national avg.)
Texas also hit a record 15.8 million in the labor force, proving one thing: People are moving here to work.

Final Thoughts from Fearless:
"I strongly believe, Texas doesn’t just talk about opportunity we build it. Whether you’re fresh out of high school, getting out of the military, switching careers, or just tired of sitting on the sidelines, in Texas the jobs are here. You just have to look around."
