What’s the Secret Sex Code Language, Illegal Massage Spas Use?
Six massage businesses across Texas, from Midland to Plano, were shut down this week by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for suspected sex and human trafficking.

But these aren’t just any shutdowns. Investigators say all six businesses were tied to the same owner and showed signs of sex trafficking, unlicensed work, and people living on-site. One even resulted in a prostitution arrest after an undercover operation.
They’re Not Openly Advertising Sex, At Least Not to Everyone
These places don’t put “illegal services available” on a sign. In fact, many look like normal massage parlors to the public. So how do they keep operating?
According to TDLR and law enforcement investigations, they use code words, suggestive online ads, and quiet signals to attract customers who are looking for more than just a back rub.
The Hidden Language of Illicit Massage Ads
Here’s how they work:
- Online classifieds are used to post ads with phrases like:
- “Relaxation guaranteed”
- "Table shower available”
- “Private room, no rush”
- “Asian massage, open late”
These terms may seem innocent, but they’re known cues that a massage business is offering sexual services.
Once a customer walks in, staff may offer “extras” during the session or hint at better services for cash, but only if they believe the person is not a cop.
What Investigators Are Finding
When TDLR agents inspect these places, they often discover:
- Missing consultation documents
- Employees without licenses
- Evidence that workers are living onsite
- Sexual paraphernalia and roleplay outfits
- Customers reporting inappropriate touching
- Some workers may even be trafficking victims with no control over their situation.

A Bigger Issue in Texas?
This isn’t just six locations. Since late 2023, TDLR has taken emergency action against 68 massage businesses across Texas suspected of being tied to trafficking.
Experts believe our location along the southern border, combined with major highway networks, may be making Texas especially vulnerable.
