Bacon Jam: My Delicious Addiction Meets the Fast Food World
I swear, with my hand on a Bible, that I’m completely addicted to Bacon Jam. It all started at the Texas Red Dirt Outlaws and Legends Music Festival during a sponsor dinner at the Back Porch of Texas event center. The Ben Richey Boys Ranch was cooking up burgers, and two sweet ladies behind the table asked if I wanted to try some Bacon Jam. I’m never one to turn down bacon, so I said yes. That first bite was pure magic. Bacon Jam became a permanent fixture in my life from that moment.
A Life-Changing Moment at the Texas Red Dirt Legends Festival
Before I left, I asked the ladies where I could get more. To my delight, they shared that it was homemade and even gave me the recipe (I've included the recipe below). Since then, I’ve begged my wife to make it regularly. She whips up a big jar of Bacon Jam about once a week, and I’m not ashamed to say that I put it on everything, like breakfast huevos con chorizo, turkey and ham sandwiches, fried chicken, and if my wife let me, I’d even top my ice cream with it.
The Recipe That Changed Everything
Now, imagine my surprise when I received an email from Dairy Queen announcing their new Jammin’ Bacon Hungr-Buster®! They’re bringing my beloved Bacon Jam to the masses. From September 30 through November 24,2024, Texans can indulge in this premium burger topped with a sweet and savory bacon jam, crispy bacon, onion rings, jalapeño ranch, and pepper jack cheese.
I will admit right here and now, I am not a fan of jalapeño, ranch dressing, or cheese for that matter, but I'm sure they add to the flavor of their Hunger Buster Burger. All I want is the buns, meat and Bacon Jam.
Bacon Jam Everywhere!
I thought about opening my own restaurant to share my love for Bacon Jam with the world, but it looks like Dairy Queen beat me to it. Nonetheless, I’m excited to see Bacon Jam getting the love it deserves.
The Recipe You’ve Been Waiting For
- 1 pound of bacon
- 2 large onions, diced
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Cook the bacon until crisp, remove and sauté the onions in the bacon fat. Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer until thickened. Enjoy!
