Rodney Crowell country and pop-music industry singer-songwriter is coming to Abilene. Rodney managed to score five number one hit songs on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts. Ironically it was all from one album he recorded in 1988 titled "Diamonds And Dirt." Crowell wrote all the songs and produced the album himself.

Rodney's biggest claim to fame is that he is a songwriter and a producer for a lot of other singers. While Crowell was in the Emmylou Harris 'Hot Band' from 1975 until the mid-80s he became her primary songwriter, and band leader, and helped Emmylou Harris achieve some awards with songs he'd written.

Rodney Crowell also wrote a song that Waylon Jennings recorded and released, earning both of them awards for "Ain't Living Long Like This."

While Rodney Crowell's Diamonds and Dirt album is one of his biggest claims to fame, he's known more in the country music industry as the former son-in-law to Johnny Cash. Rodney was once married to Johnny's daughter Rosanne Cash. After he and Cash married Rodney wrote numerous #1 songs putting Rosanne Cash on the country music charts and in the country music history books.

In the early 80s, Rodney Crowell found success on the rock side of Billboard magazine. Crowell wrote several songs, one of which was "Shame on the Moon" recorded in 1982 by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band and featured Eagles member Glenn Frey on vocals (see video below). That single and the album of the same name became the number one song for four weeks straight on the Hot-100 Pop chart, the Adult Contemporary Chart, and topped the Country Music chart in Billboard Magazine.

To this day Rodney Crowell has been credited for writing songs for Roseanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Wynonna Judd, Crystal Gayle, the Oakridge Boys, Jerry Reed, Alan Jackson, Lee Ann Womack, and Tim McGraw just to name a few.
