The Abilene Zoo has canceled the Christmas Celebration for Thursday ONLY, due to the hard freeze and inclement weather conditions that have blown into Abilene and throughout west Texas today.

The Zoo leadership team made the decision to cancel because the subfreezing
temperatures and the temperatures and weather are predicted to be far worse than originally expected in West Texas. Members of the Abilene Zoo’s animal management team have begun moving all the animals indoors, into heated holding areas.

LOOK: All This Fun Stuff Is At The Abilene Zoo Christmas Celebration

Thus far, the Abilene zoo Christmas celebration has been spectacular. The zoo has been decorated with hundreds of thousands of lights and even has its own snowmaking machine even though it's not needed during this current batch of cold weather. Plus, there's an incredible firepit where families are able to make "S'Mores" by the fire and the snack bar has some tasty hot cocoa.

Then there is the real Santa Claus with his lovable reindeer, where we can have our photos made with them. The coolest part is the fact that we were able to feed the reindeer. Nonetheless, this cancelation is for today Thursday, December 22nd ONLY. If anything changes and/or more information becomes available you'll find out first, right here. Additionally, if you have already purchased your tickets for tonight's event they will be honored tomorrow Friday, December 23rd. As we say in the radio world, Y'all stay tuned!

The Abilene Zoo is located at 2070 Zoo Lane, and you can call (325) 676-6085 to find out how to obtain an annual zoo membership.
