I’ve lived in and around Abilene for most of my life, and I’ve learned that a change of scenery doesn’t always require a packed suitcase, a full tank othat I posted this already yeah I didf gas, or hours on a Texas highway.
Sometimes an hour or two is all it takes to unwind, cool off, learn something new, or simply forget about the daily grind.

This one is personal. I visit the Abilene Zoo a couple of times a month just to get away and de-stress. Sometimes I simply slow down, walk, watch the animals, and let the rest of the world wait.

Frontier Texas offers an interactive look at the people and stories that shaped this part of the state. It’s also a great indoor escape when the West Texas heat gets serious.

Here’s one my wife and I have actually done. When Abilene hotels aren’t booked up, we’ll occasionally rent a room and turn an ordinary night into a mini vacation.
As I get older, I’ve noticed the blistering Texas sun isn’t quite as romantic as it used to be. Give me a nice air-conditioned hotel, a cool indoor pool, and a great place nearby for dinner.
When the kids or grandkids join us, they love it too.
No long road trip. No hours behind the wheel. Sometimes the getaway you need is already waiting right here in Abilene.
