NBA Star Iman Shumpert Delivers ‘Substance Abuse’ EP
The NBA Playoffs may be in full swing but with the Sacramento Kings not making it this year, basketball star Iman Shumpert is getting back to rapping. On April 13, Shump dropped his latest project, Substance Abuse.
The six-track EP is a truly solo effort from the Kings shooting guard who goes as Iman. in the rap world. With no guest features, Substance Abuse gives Shumpert a chance to shine as he raps over smooth instrumentals. On the opening track, "Elevators," the rapper interpolates the OutKast song of the same name, while on "Seductive" Shump shows off his vocals.
"Now only time she call is when she's searching for the vibe/She been prone to fantasy and he worth all the hype/Something bout her staring with conviction in her eye," he croons on the song.
Throughout the years, Shumpert has released a number of songs and remixed popular tracks like "Hotline Bling" and "Jumpman." The NBA star even had the support of former NBA player Metta World Peace, who tried to get Shumpert signed to Interscope.
"I was talking to a couple of people over there about getting him signed. I really wish somebody would sign him and just let him do urban music," he told XXL in 2015. "Put a little budget behind him because I think he can be pretty effective in the rap game."
