What Will Be the Coldest Day of the Year in Abilene?

While it's impossible to predict the exact coldest day of the year, we do have access to research that can help us narrow down the time frame as to when it will happen.

The fine people down at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center have compiled the numbers and given us an educated guess as to when we'll experience our coldest day in the 2016-17 winter season.

Basically, they've recorded the temperature records from the previous decades and provided us with what they feel will be the coldest days of the year in various parts of the country.

The colorful little map below shows the entire nation and expected bottom-barrel days.

While that map shows the Western portion of the U.S. receiving their record lows early on in the winter season, Texas won't bottom out until January.

We appear to be on the border of January 1-5 & January 6-10. So, it's safe to say we'll see our coldest day of the year between January 1st-10th, 2016.

Granted, that's a 10-day window, so if you'd like to make your exact day prediction based on that, then leave your guess in the comments section below. My prediction is that we'll see our coldest day on January 7th.
