It's one thing I know, Americans love their pets. It's no wonder that we lead the way around the world with the dog and cat populations. America has its own group of breeds that have found their way here. But, as far as popular dog breeds, I've found that it varies from state to state.

Texas is a state that loves its dogs. Man's best friends are kept not only as companions but also as service and working dogs. With so many wide-open spaces, it's no wonder dogs are found everywhere.

There are so many breeds out there, let's take a look at a few that are near and dear to Texans according to hepper.com.

Labrador Retriever

This breed has a special place in this Texan's heart as I've owned 2 Labradors. This is a strong-built and medium-size breed. Labradors are athletic dogs and well-rounded which makes them great retrievers as well as great hunters of waterfowl and other smaller-type game. This breed developed in the United Kingdom.
