It's already Homecoming week for Texas Tech Football and this year's Homecoming opponent is the Iowa State Cyclones.

After losing two Big 12 Conference games in a row, head coach Kliff Kingsbury said the team is keeping a positive attitude, "I think they'll be good. I think they know we didn't play our best game against a top 3 team in the country, and that's what happens. You have that many penalties, that many turnovers, it's not going to be close."

Concerning areas of improvement for the Red Raiders, Kingsbury offered, "Just starts with the turnovers and penalties, more than anything," he said. "We gotta get that corrected. When you do that, you don't give yourself a chance to even compete (against Baylor). And we didn't. That game was over early based on the fact we were giving the ball away like we were."

Starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been battling a lower body injury over the past few games. Kingsbury said Mahomes will start Saturday against Iowa State, "He's a tough kid. Just talking to our trainers, they've been very surprised the way he's handled it and the fact that he was able to finish that game (TCU) and then play this one (Baylor) the way he did. Just proud of him. I know it really shows his teammates what type of competitor he is, and that helps our entire program."

Coming into Saturday's game, Texas Tech is tied for last place in the Big 12 Conference with the Texas Longhorns. Both teams have an (0-2) conference record. Texas Tech's overall record is (3-2) and Texas' is (1-4).

Texas Tech vs Iowa State is slated for a 2:30pm kickoff at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday, October 10, and the game will be televised on FOX Sports Net.  SportsRadio 1340 The Fan's Countdown to Kickoff will air from 11:30am-1:30pm on Saturday.
