Terrorism Expert May Testify at Fort Hood Trial

A judge in a military court-martial is weighing whether to allow a terrorism expert to testify in the trial of an Army psychiatrist.

Major Nidal Hasan is on trial for the Fort Hood shooting rampage and his defense team doesn’t want Evan Kohlmann to testify in the trial at the court-martial.

Hasan’s attorneys say that the prosecution doesn’t need the testimony of Kohlmann or the 50-page report on Hasan to show motive or premeditation.

Kohlmann testified at a pretrial hearing Thursday by telephone and said Hasan meets all criteria that indicates a person is a homegrown terrorist. Hasan is alleged to have three videos on his computer about terror related activities.

Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the November 2009 shootings at the Texas Army post at Fort Hood.

Hasan faces the death penalty if convicted.
