Always one to get into the spirit of things, John Kerry showed up at a White House ceremony honoring the Boston Bruins with a pair of shiners. The good news is that he didn’t earn them while duking it out in Congress.

The Bruins, from Kerry’s home state of Massachusetts, were honored at the White House for winning the Stanley Cup. Coincidentally, a representative for Kerry said his black eyes were from a hockey game.

Kerry spokeswoman Whitney Smith said, “He’s totally fine. Very ironically, he busted his nose recently playing ice hockey, so the Bruins can certainly relate.”

The senator has played hockey for years, although his windsurfing hobby got more public attention during his presidential campaign. But, after this, no one can say Kerry won’t do just about anything to earn some street cred with his constituents.
