With temperatures continuing to soar into the triple digits it's harder and harder to stay cool. The 'Beat the Heat' campaign will help provide awareness and tools to keep our seniors, disabled and homebound residents cool and safe.

The West Central Texas Council of Governments are asking the public to be aware of heat risks; especially to our older members, those with disabilities or those that are homebound. With the help of friends, family, neighbors and other community organizations we can keep our citizens healthy and safe.

Many in our community will not run their air-conditioners (if they even have one) due to the high expense. They just can't afford it so they sit in the heat and that can pose serious health issues like heat stroke and heat exhaustion. The WCTCOG, Adult Protective Services and the West Central Area Agency on Aging want to provide these folks with thermometers and information that will help them know when they must turn on their fans or air-conditioners to keep themselves safe.
