Family trees in the Marvel universe -- cinematic or purely comic book -- tend to be a little twisted. When it comes to James Gunn's upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' that's definitely still the case, thanks to a pair of adopted sisters that look poised to spend the film's runtime slowly moving away from each other and towards opposite ends of the personality spectrum, with plenty of hand-to-hand combat to keep things strange.

On one side, there's Zoe Saldana's green-skinned Gamora, a tough-as-nails assassin who is working hard to become a better person (and, yes, being an eponymous Guardian sure seems like a fine way to get there), facing off against, well, yet another tough-as-nails assassin, Karen Gillan's bald beauty Nebula. The real rub? They're sisters -- both the adopted offspring of the evil Thanos, and breaking away from their nefarious papa isn't the easiest thing to do. In fact, it sounds positively deadly.

A new featurette from the film has just been released, a quickie that handily addresses just what the heck is going on between the sisters (hint: they will probably put any and all sibling fights to shame) and gives us a better look at the tortured dynamics that await us in the final film. No, they're probably not going to end up hugging this one out.

The film also stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro.

'Guardians of the Galaxy' opens on August 1.
