Common Accuses Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones of Having Slave Owner Mentality
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is the latest to stir up controversy regarding the NFL protests, as he recently stated that any Cowboys player that "disrespects" the flag won't play, and Common has some serious thoughts on the matter. TMZ speaks with the veteran rapper, who has always been vocal about social issues, and he claims Jones is showing his "slave owner mentality" in his handling of the protests.
Common believes Jones' attitude is unpatriotic based on the fact that this country encourages freedom of speech and the right to protest for beliefs.
“To me, it’s an owner mentality,” Common told TMZ Sports. “It’s like a slave owner mentality, to be honest. Like, ‘You gonna do what I say on this.’ Nobody disrespecting the jib, they’re just saying this is how I want to place my body during this anthem.”
”If somebody says, ‘I’m kneeling for what I believe in,’ then they should be able to do that because that’s what this country is about.”
