Smack in the middle of his reign as a coach on the 15th season of The Voice, Blake Shelton took some time to pick up his guitar for an acoustic performance of his song "Turnin’ Me On." And whether it’s the simple nature of the stripped-down song or the way his eyes permeate through the screen, it works.

The song is off his current album Texoma Shore, which has already birthed hits such as “I Lived It” and “I’ll Name the Dogs.” Fans will recall that “Turnin’ Me On” is the same song Shelton serenaded long-time girlfriend Gwen Stefani with last month on Instagram. In fact, the song is said to have been originally written for Stefani herself, with help from co-writers Jessi Alexander and Josh Osborne.

In fact, through the years, Shelton has looked to his personal life to inspire his professional life. Back in 2012, Miranda Lambert released the song "Over You," a tear jerker of a ballad that she had written alongside then-love Shelton. The song told the story of the feelings that still brewed from Shelton’s brother passing away at a young age.

Look, you’re never gonna get over it,” Shelton says in a recent interview. “For me, my brother was my big brother. I mean, I wanted to be him. I wanted to look like him, dress like him, listen to what he listened to, and be into the things he was into. So when he was killed in a car accident, it was literally like the world went silent. There was a void in my world all of a sudden, and I’m still not over it. I’m just used to it.”

Although the show is currently airing its pre-taped auditions, Shelton will get back to work on The Voice come November when the live shows begin.
